The Ladies Acceptance Meeting Banbury (L.A.M.B.) is held at the Brabazon Room in the Dupuis Centre which is behind St John’s Catholic Church located at 25 South Barr Street in Bandbury. They meet at Wednesday lunchtime at 1230. All the meetings at the Ladies meeting on Wednesday are open meetings.
There are two other meetings held in Banbury on a Tuesday and Friday at 1930.
The meeting was started in July 2007 by Patti S, an American. She was a member of a Ladies’ Group in Colorado which started off in a sick member’s house to give her comfort when dying of cancer. They read certain pages from the Acceptance chapter in the Big Book. That group still meets at 12 noon on a Wednesday and has up to 40 members!
Our LAMB Group started off at St John’s Catholic Church, Banbury, in the Tandy Room, moved for a short spell to the Therapy Centre in Oxford Road and then back to St. John’s Church in the larger Brabazon Room.
At the meetings we always read the same pages from the Acceptance chapter and share round the room. Numbers vary but we average 8-12 people. Newcomers do come back because they feel safe sharing in an all female group. It is an Open meeting so a needy male is welcomed but not on a regular basis (there are other meetings in the area accessible by car, bus or train). Other Women Only meetings have sprung up in Oxford in the past, but never survived for long.
